The Guardian ad Litem Association of Buncombe County is committed to social justice and equality for every person in this country, no matter the color of their skin. We believe that Black lives matter; we hear you, we see you, and we stand with you.
The Guardian ad Litem Association of Buncombe County was formed in 1991 by a group of dedicated Guardians ad Litem to address the basic needs of children in the protective custody of the Buncombe County DSS. The Association is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization (501(c)(3)) and is the only non-profit organization in Buncombe County that seeks to raise funds so that every child in protective custody will have the support needed to succeed and to grow up in a safe, stable and nurturing environment. The Association provides services to our children that address basic needs such as clothing, school supplies and enrichment activities during this intensely difficult time in their lives. Enrichment activities include various camps, tutoring, participation in school trips and sports that the child would not otherwise experience.
The Association solicits funds from community members and from foundations and other grantors to fund our efforts. We are forming partnerships with other non-profits and businesses to further our responsiveness to the needs of our most victimized children.

Mission and Vision
The Guardian ad Litem Association of Buncombe County’s mission is to serve abused and neglected children.
The Guardian ad Litem Association of Buncombe County’s vision is that every child will have the support needed to succeed and to grow up in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment that is free from abuse and neglect.
What we do to support these children
GALABC is a non-profit organization (501c3) and is the only non-profit agency in Buncombe County that seeks to raise funds so that every child in protective care will have the support needed to succeed and to grow up in a safe, stable and nurturing environment.
GALABC provides resources for these children that address both basic and special needs, including clothes, school supplies, tutoring, literacy assistance, beds, summer camp, and other support during this intensely difficult time of their lives. While the State provides some resources for these children, many of the things that most children take for granted are not available to these innocent kids- a backpack for school, T-Ball League registration, shoes that fit, art supplies for creative outlets, tutoring, and many other little things that help these kids have a normal childhood.
Please take a look at our Testimonials section for more examples of how your generous donations can help these kids grow up into strong members of our community.
